Magic Land is a new game by the extremely talented and successful developer Woonga. We are all aware of Woonga’s famous games on the social media giant Facebook. Woonga is adept at taking up games belonging to existing genres and making them feel fresh. Woonga has wielded its magic in case of Magic Land too, by combining the attributes of various genres into one cohesive experience. And the results are fabulous.

Magic Land 5

Magic Land by Woonga has elements of an RPG game, a city building game and games like Cityville and Frontierville. Thus, in Magic Land you would be spending your time running farms, creating cities, decorating, fighting monsters and wandering into the wilderness to explore the landscape. It’s noteworthy that none of these elements are innovative or new in any way but what is special about Magic Land is the fact that Woonga was able to stitch all these elements together in almost perfect harmony. The combination of all these elements almost makes the game feel very different from any other game out there, so kudos to Woonga for pulling off such an impressive feat.

At the start of the game, you are required to choose your character. Then the story unfolds and a dragon devastates the kingdom you live in, and abducts people from the royal family. So your quest begins. You not only have to reconstruct the kingdom which has been ravaged by the dragon, buy also find the dragon and bring back the royal family members. Thus you find yourself indulged in city building elements, farming elements and bits where you have to kill monsters in the forest. It’s an interesting mash up of elements.

Magic Land 3

The graphics are the highlight of this game. The game uses brilliant 2d graphics with amazing details. The movement animation of the protagonists, dragon and other characters are very realistic and smooth. The buildings however are not animated but this is not a major flaw and it’s something we can ignore. The game also performs very well with minimal load times and smooth frame rate. The music is also done right for a medieval setting.

It’s difficult to find out problems with this casual game. It combines so many aspects of different genres together so well that it’s hard to point finger at any element of the game. Some would argue that it’s not an original game but that’s missing the point. Another advantage of combining so many different genres together is that this game could appeal to a very large audience. Facebook is littered with myriad sims and this has to be among the best. If you like casual gaming on Facebook you should jump right in.

Magic Land is free to play.
